
My collegue, Michael, sent me this link to a cool way of demolishing a building a floor at a time from the bottom up! Leave it to the Japanese to find a neat way to remove a building as opposed to the American way of blowing up a building like the Seattle Kingdome. It seems it's cheaper, safer, faster, and easier to recycle building materials by doing it this way. Having lived in Tokyo myself with its extremely dense street plan, I can see why taking down a commercial building one floor at a time would be easier than blowing it up.
This isn't too relevant for home remodeling (even the demolition phase), but I thought it was interesting.
